DIY Home Automation (Smart Home) – Cheap
Many people today and maybe even you, dream about the new smart home idea. Lots of people are starting to move forward with automation, and it’s now becoming more and more popular within houses, schools, hotels and more. So if you’re the type of person that loves to lay back and turn off the lights with a click of a button, you might want to look into some cheap, but effective ways to automate your home! Now, this may be simple and cheap, but not as effective as the Nimbus system. The Nimbus system allows integration within different devices and electronics. A simple way to think about that, is that the Nimbus system allows smart home devices to work well with others. These single devices however, do not. They work individually, but won’t allow integration with other devices; they work individually. So you’re either looking at a couple items in your house to control everything, or a ton of items in your house as well as the applications on your phone to support what they’re supposed to do.
This is a great product if you’re looking to make things easier on yourself, and the best part is that it’s under $50. It replaces your old wall light switch, and works with any one-way connection light. It’s easy and perfect for people who like to do it themselves (DIY)! If you don’t feel like coming home to a dark house, set the lights to turn on before you get home. You can even use it with Amazon Alexa incase you’d want to use voice commands. This also works with Nest Thermostat, so your lights will “know” if you’re out of the house or not, and can turn on or off. This works with any smart phone or tablet running Android 4.1 and higher, or iOS 8 and higher. If you’re looking for something cheap, cool, and most importantly effective, then this might be for you. Great item for your smart home!
This is a little pricier than your light switch from WeMo, but it’s very effective and can do some pretty cool things. This device has a nice, elegant, and modern look. So not only will it look good in your house, but it will keep you warm during the freezing nights. The device uses built-in sensors to track where you go within your household, and then auto-adjusts based on the movements in the home. You can still make manual edits to the settings on the app anywhere you have Wi-Fi, or a cellular connection. This also works with Amazon Alexa for voice control commands in English, French, Spanish, and Dutch.
This device will work with some of the WeMo products such as the light switch mentioned above. When motion is sensed, the lights can turn on automatically. This is an affordable camera that allows HD wide-angels, night vision, and even e-mail alerts with movement-detection. It will also allow two-way conversations with its push-to-talk microphone. This is a nice way.
If you’re worried making food in the crock-pot because you think you might be getting home late, or you’re short on time, this might be a good solution for you. Again, WeMo has this awesome crock-pot that allows you to control the time and temperature via the WeMo application. Just in case you’re wondering, it IS dishwasher-safe.
This is a pretty cool scale if you’re looking for the latest and greatest. It accurately tracks your weight/body fat percentage. It also does your BMI (body mass index). You can upload your stats automatically to Fitbit, and see graphs of your progress, online. So not only can you weigh yourself and get off, but now you can see detailed graphs and track what kind of improvements you’ve made.
