System Example: Command Central
Total control at your fingertips

Step 1: System Design

Project Overview

Unlike many of our clients, this homeowner didn't want audio or video. Instead, he wanted a complete home automation system that would allow him to control his lighting, security, and climate control systems down to the finest detail. We took his request and generated the following system.

Step 2: Rough-in Kit

Wiring Plans, Guides, and Pulling Wire

Detailed wiring plans were created after the design and estimate were accepted by the client. Each system was diagramed on its own page making the plans very readable. Custom guides were also created to ensure no detail was left unanswered.

This homeowner was very hands-on and really wanted to do the installation himself. He took a little longer than we would have spent, but he now knows every wire in his house! When he finished wiring he found he had some extra wire, so he asked us for some recommendations on ways to future-proof his home. We recommended a few extra touch screen locations as well as some general pulls from the basement to attic.

Step 3: Custom Programming

Complete Integration

The programming of this system was very complex as the system needed to be extremely responsive and all aspects of the home are tied into the automation system.

  • PC Control - We set up the client's computer to control all aspects of the house, no matter where he was in the world. From his home office he can access, control and make changes to the system.
  • Energy Savings - Being "green" was a primary goal for our client. It was important to him that no dollar was wasted by excess energy use. The system monitors the home for occupancy and incorporates sunrise, sunset, wind speed, relative humidity (inside and out), outdoor temperature and all doors and windows, to determine the best usage of the lighting, irrigation and HVAC systems.
  • Security - Protection was important not only for the obvious reasons, but also to be used as an "overseer" of the home. This integration with the energy control systems assures the homeowner that no windows are left open while the heat or A/C systems are running and that proper HVAC setbacks are used when the home is empty.

Step 4: Trim-Out & Final Install

Another Successful DIY!

Our client had done his research and knew what he wanted. We were able to guide him through the install process every step of the way. In the end he had one very impressive system!

Ongoing Changes & Updates

Our client vigilantly monitors the homes energy usage and has been more than pleased by the results. We have made a few changes to the program since they have moved in.

  • They have adjusted the setbacks on the HVAC system for both increased comfort and efficiency.
  • The irrigation system is now wind-sensitive and does not operate when the wind is too strong.
  • And many more to come...
